One of the biggest questions I get from potential Texas State graduates is, “What are the best photo locations on Texas State University campus?” That’s definitely a great question! There are so many potential locations to choose from that it can become overwhelming. I’m here to share about three of the most common locations for photos on campus!

Texas State University Photo Location: The Arch

The Arch is a must-have location for Texas State graduation photos. You will not see a graduate’s gallery without at least one photo at this location. One of the downsides to this location can be how windy it gets during overcast days. If you have your session during an overcast day just be warned and prepared! For those who procrastinate and wait until the end of the semester to book their session, this location can become a nightmare to get to due to the long lines that can form by graduates waiting their turn. For photographers, The Arch is perfectly shaded in the mornings and evenings providing ideal lighting for photos.

Texas State University Photo Location: Old Main

Another iconic location on Texas State University campus is Old Main. Unfortunately, this location is best for photos closer to sunrise when the sun is shining behind the building. During the evening Old Main is hit with the sun’s harsh light making it unflattering in photos. If Old Main is a top priority for your photos then a sunrise or early session is better for you! If a morning session is not possible you can still capture this beautiful building with tighter shots that won’t show the harsh lighting.

Texas State University Photo Location: The Fountain

The Fountain at Texas State is simply a beautiful photo location. The fountain is perfect for sunset or sunrise sessions. It can be a hit or miss whether the fountain is on or not. If you get lucky enough to have the fountain on during your session, it can provide a beautiful photo backdrop! If the fountain is not on during your session, fear not, the buildings and trees around the fountain can still provide beautiful backgrounds!
