Graduation Session | Booking Your Session

A quick read full of helpful information when it comes to booking your graduation session. Below I will go into detail about when you should book your session!

Texas State University Old Main

1. Book your graduation session as early as possible!

If we are honest, a lot of people wait until the last minute to book their graduation session. If you book your senior session early, you can get first dibs on the best dates. The best dates are early in the semester when crowds aren’t as bad. If you have walked on campus about 3 weeks before graduation then you have seen the long lines that form around that time at the popular locations. Having to wait 10-15 minutes for each location will severely cut down on the images for your final gallery. Don’t wait to book your session because the early spots will book fast!

2. Sunrise graduation session

No one wants to wake up early (including myself), but sunrise sessions have their perks. Texas State campus is typically empty in the mornings and not many students will choose to have their graduation sessions in the mornings. This means fewer people walking around and possibly getting in your shots! This is especially a great idea if you have to book closer to graduation.

3. Book during holidays or breaks!

If you live locally or plan to stay in town for breaks, book your graduation session then! Texas State campus is a ghost town during breaks! No crowds or people other than a few graduates taking pictures. I am local to San Marcos and only 15 minutes from campus so I do not mind doing sessions over holiday breaks!

4. Book your graduation sessions a semester before you graduate or the semester after

Have one less thing to worry about and book your session a semester before you graduate! I had a senior do this last Spring and I thought it was a great idea! It’s also never too late to get your graduation portraits done. If you do wait until the last minute and your photographer is completely booked before graduation, book a date after graduation. There is no rule stating that you can’t have your graduation session after graduation!
